Here we go!

I have wanted to start a blog for some time now to share with others the highs and lows of our life on a smallholding here in the heart of Ireland. My computer skills are not great but will get better with practice (I hope).
We moved to Ireland 6 years ago in search of a better life for our family, our life in Scotland was good, but we lived in the middle of a large town and we were growing steadily weary of all things towny and looked for pastures new. The opportunity came for us to move to Ireland and before I knew what was happening our house was sold and we were on our way to our better life.
We rented a bungalow for a while in County Kildare which was lovely but it was not home and so my days were spent in the company of "my Home.ie" looking for that special place. Eventually we found our wee cottage complete with 1 acre and a red picket fence and so our new life in the country became a reality.
We were lucky that, thanks to a rumour that new age hippies were moving in, all the neighbours came round on day one to welcome us with scones and wine, I was liking Ireland very much so far, I never did find out why the rumour started in the first place, perhaps I was spotted wearing a floaty skirt and dangly ear-rings, I dont know. Then when we gathered our breath the question arose "what now?"
